Cougar

Cougars can be over 6 feet long! They hunt elk, deer, and smaller mammals. They are nocturnal and hunt at night. They live in mountain areas or in forests. They roam around areas as large as 100 square miles. They do not have a den that they go back to every day. Most often, they will spend the day in the thick cover of a forest or in a cave in a rocky area. Cougars have a cry that sounds like a person who is screaming in pain--which can be very scary for people. They also have a call that sounds like a soft whistle. Sometimes cougars are seen near homes or towns. Because they will attack small animals or children, they are sometimes hunted and killed by people. |
