This is the school house

Hi I'm a teacher in colonial America. I’m going to tell about school in colonial times. First, I’ll tell you about what kinds of teaching tools I use. The kids in my class only have two books. One is the Bible. The other one is the primer. The primer talks about the alphabet, numbers and spelling. The kids have copybooks so they can write in them. The copybook is small and it has wood on the side of it and it is

black in the front of it. The kids use pencils and quill pens. Quill pens are made out of a feather from a bird. If you want to write with a quill pen you need some ink so you can put the feather in the ink and then you can write with it.

The kids in the school learn lots of stuff. For example, they learn how to read and write with a quill pen.

They also practice writing on slate boards. The kids learn how to cook, run a big house, to give parties and balls. They also learn how to have fine manners and they learn how to draw and embroider.

The kids get to bring their own lunch. For example, they bring homemade bread, donuts, pies, juicy fruits, and they make hot cocoa.

When the kids go to school some wear breeches instead of pants. Some kids wear long coats. Some wear cloaks that are made with a collar at neck.

I would like to stay and talk but I need to go back to class.

Thank you for your time and for listening to me.
